Half Marathon Training Week 13: New Chapter

We finished week 13 this past Sunday. We have begun the “taper.” I did not know that was a thing, but I am enjoying the lighter running schedules for a few weeks. My pace has been terrible the last couple of weeks. I am not sure if I am just relaxing into it more, if it is the warmer weather. or if I need to eat more. I don’t have a lot to say this week. I am both nervous and excited about next week. I have moments where I feel totally confident and am looking forward to it. Then, I have others where I wonder what the hell did I do? I would appreciate any words of wisdom or encouragement. 6 months ago, I could barely make it 1/4 of mile. In less than two weeks, I will complete 13.1 miles. I am so proud and so scared. This is not the hardest thing I have ever done, and I will face harder things in the future. However, it represents so much growth, change, and I believe a new chapter.

  1. It’s a familiar feeling – but at this stage you have to trust the training plan. Keep following it and all the advice you’ll have got about the few days before, and the day of, the run itself (rest, hydration, route familiarity, kit laid out in advance, nothing new, etc). You’ll be fine and remember – enjoy the experience.
